These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the MateFi website, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the “Services”). The Services are provided by MateFi LLC (“MateFi,” “we,” “us,” “our”).
By creating an account, accessing, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Privacy
Your use of the Services is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and share information about you. By using the Services, you consent to those practices.
This Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services that you access through the Services (for example, your bank’s website or third-party integrations). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
2. Eligibility (Including Users Under 18)
The Services are intended for users in the United States and Canada.
- Children under 13: The Services are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow them to create accounts.
- Users under the age of majority: If you are under 18 (or under the age of majority where you live), you may use the Services only with permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. If you are a parent/guardian and you allow a minor to use the Services, you agree to these Terms on the minor’s behalf and you are responsible for the minor’s activity.
- Authority to link accounts / subscribe: You represent that you have the legal right and authority to connect any financial account you link and to use any payment method used for subscriptions. Some financial institutions or app stores may require you to be 18+ for certain actions.
3. Account Registration and Security
To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:
- provide accurate and up-to-date information,
- keep your login credentials confidential,
- notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. The Services (What We Provide)
MateFi provides tools for personal finance management, such as budgeting, goal tracking, analytics, subscription detection, and AI-assisted insights. Features may change over time, and we may add, modify, or discontinue features at any time.
5. Connected Accounts (Bank Linking)
The Services may allow you to connect bank or financial accounts (“Connected Accounts”) through third-party providers (such as Plaid) and your financial institutions.
By linking Connected Accounts, you authorize MateFi and our providers to access, retrieve, and process the account information you permit (for example, balances and transactions) to provide the Services.
Important notes:
- We do not control any financial institution or third-party provider and are not responsible for their acts or omissions.
- Connected Account data may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or unavailable.
- You are responsible for confirming the accuracy of information before making decisions.
6. Subscriptions, Billing, Auto-Renewal, and No Refunds
Some features require a paid subscription (“Paid Services”). We offer monthly and annual plans.
A. Auto-renewal
Unless you cancel before the end of the current billing period, your subscription will automatically renew and you authorize recurring charges.
B. Where you purchased matters
- Web subscriptions: If you subscribe on our website, payments are processed via Stripe (or another processor we may use).
- Apple App Store / Google Play: If you subscribe through Apple or Google, billing and cancellations are handled by that platform and their terms apply.
C. No refunds
All fees are non-refundable and we do not provide refunds or credits for partially used periods, except where required by applicable law.
D. Price changes
We may change subscription pricing. If required, we will notify you in advance, and changes typically apply at your next renewal.
7. Data Retention
We provide tools to export your data from the Services. Availability and formats may vary by feature and platform.
8. AI Features
The Services may include AI features (such as a chatbot) that generate responses based on your inputs and available context.
You understand and agree:
- AI output may be incorrect, incomplete, or outdated.
- AI features are provided for informational purposes only.
- You are responsible for verifying outputs before relying on them.
9. Not Financial Advice; No Fiduciary Relationship
MateFi is a technology platform. We are not a bank, lender, broker-dealer, investment adviser, tax adviser, or accountant, and we do not provide financial, legal, tax, or investment advice. Nothing in the Services is a recommendation or solicitation to take any financial action.
10. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use the Services in violation of any law or regulation,
- access another person’s account without permission,
- attempt to bypass security or authentication,
reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to discover source code (except where permitted by law), - scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access the Services without authorization,
introduce malware or interfere with the Services.
We may suspend or terminate your access if we believe you violated these Terms.
11. User Content; License to Operate the Services
“User Content” includes information you submit to the Services (e.g., budgets, categories, notes, goals, and messages).
You retain ownership of your User Content. However, you grant MateFi a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, and display your User Content only as necessary to provide, maintain, and improve the Services.
12. Feedback
If you provide suggestions or feedback, you grant us the right to use it without restriction or compensation.
13. Intellectual Property
The Services (including software, design, text, graphics, logos, and other content, excluding User Content) are owned by MateFi or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Services for personal use in accordance with these Terms.
14. Third-Party Services and Links
The Services may integrate with or link to third-party services. We do not control third parties and are not responsible for their services, content, availability, or practices.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access (with or without notice where permitted) if:
- you violate these Terms,
- we suspect fraud or misuse,
- required for security, legal, or operational reasons.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive (including IP, disclaimers, limitations of liability, dispute resolution, and indemnity).
16. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, accurate, or secure.
17. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- MATEFI WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST REVENUE, LOST DATA, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL.
- MATEFI’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF $100 OR THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO MATEFI FOR THE SERVICES IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
18. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MateFi and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to:
- your use of the Services,
- your violation of these Terms,
- your violation of any law or third-party rights.
19. Governing Law and Courts-Only Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, excluding conflict-of-law rules.
To the extent permitted by law, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you and MateFi consent to personal jurisdiction and venue there.
Canadian consumers: If you reside in Canada, you may have mandatory consumer rights, and some disputes may need to be brought in the courts of your province/territory as required by applicable law. Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit those mandatory rights.
20. App Store / Google Play Terms (Mobile Apps)
If you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play:
- those platforms may have additional terms that apply to you,
- Apple/Google are not responsible for the Services provided by MateFi (to the extent allowed by their platform rules),
- you must comply with applicable platform requirements.
21. Electronic Communications
By using the Services, you consent to receive communications electronically (e.g., email, in-app messages). You agree that electronic communications satisfy legal requirements for written notice where permitted by law.
22. Miscellaneous
- Assignment: You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
- Severability: If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- Entire agreement: These Terms and any policies referenced are the entire agreement regarding the Services.
- No waiver: Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
